About the tests:
The Praxis is a testing program designed to provide exams and other services to states for use in their teacher certification process. In some cases, the Praxis is used as an entry exam to education programs or as a university-required exams for student assessment. The Praxis Series consists of the Praxis Core Academic Skills, Praxis Subject, and Praxis Content Knowledge assessments.
The Praxis Core tests measure reading, writing and mathematics skills. Praxis Subject assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. Subject tests are usually taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by many states. Praxis Content Knowledge exams are designed for teacher candidates seeking a generalist elementary school license. More information can be found here.
You must register for a Praxis exam no later than three full days prior to a testing date. Exams with writing or speaking components will take additional time to grade. This is particularly important for World Language Exams used for senior testing. If you test in December and scores don’t arrive until after graduation, a hold will be placed on your account until scores arrive. Students are encouraged to test in the earlier window for senior testing purposes.
Praxis exams are only available as a Computer-Based Test at Truman State University.
Praxis Testing Windows (Computer-Based)
You can see a calendar of upcoming test dates at the top of this page. It is important to note that some exams can only be administered during specific windows. ETS provided a document for all Praxis windows, here, but be aware that the list is subject to change by ETS.
It is the responsibility of the test taker to find out which tests are required by the agency or state in which they are seeking licensure. The test taker may wish to check with that particular state or agency, or visit the Praxis website.

- Phone number: 800-772-9476
With the current Praxis website, testers have to add exams to cart to see test availability, and free resources are hidden behind email signups. When you select your test, you will notice the test name is accompanied by a four-digit code. You can substitute your test’s code in this example url to get a study companion without needing to be put on a mailing list: https://praxis.ets.org/on/demandware.static/-/Library-Sites-ets-praxisLibrary/default/pdfs/5162.pdf. To see test windows, you’ll need to reference the linked document above, or work through registration on the Praxis website. It is recommended to test at a physical test center, rather than use remote testing. Test centers have standardized environments, and centers have more tools to deal with test problems like temporary power outages.
Paraprofessional Exam
The ETS Paraprofessional exam is delivered at Prometric centers and test centers with a separate agreement for administering this test. This is an important distinction because online scheduling is largely only available at Prometric centers. Testers will need to reach out to local institutions for more information on the Parapro because sites like Truman won’t appear in Prometric’s list of available centers.
Registration and scheduling are very unique for this exam. To purchase your exam, go to our Truman-managed payment page and work through check-out. You will need to add the “$0” item to cart to see the the test and proctoring fee options. This will hopefully be updated with a more intuitive storefront in the future. You will also need to call 660-785-4140 during business hours to setup a test appointment. We will use the fees you paid on our site to purchase your test voucher.
On test day, you will need to bring a valid, government-issued ID for check-in. Specifically, please come prepared with a driver’s license, passport, or military ID. The test bulletin that includes ID policies is here. You can find practice tests and study companions here.
