About the test:

The GRE General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study.

Graduate schools often require the GRE as part of the application process.  All GRE general tests are now computer-based.

Subject Exams

The GRE Subject Tests measure specific areas of study. Many Graduate schools use them to assess applicants in specific areas. The subject exams vary in content and length.

Specific information about the GRE Subject tests can be found in the GRE Registration bulletin or at the GRE Subject Exam website.
